A printed piece usually goes quiet once it leaves the shop. Put one of our QR codes on it and it tells you who scanned it, when, and from where.
It adds a step you can measure to your sales funnel: the mail lands → they scan → your offer, sign-up form or booking page opens. Then you know which pieces, lists and neighbourhoods are pulling their weight.
- Free. No subscription, no scan limits, no expiry.
- Change the link any time, even after 5,000 postcards are printed.
- Your design: your colours, dot and corner styles, and your logo in the middle.
- Real numbers: total and unique scans, with link checkers and previews left out.
Make it look like yours
Pick the colours, the dot style and the corners, and drop your logo in the middle. Download it as PNG or SVG for your artwork. The design is saved, so next month’s reprint comes out the same.
How it works
Make a code
Name it and say where it should send people: your website, an offer, a booking page, a survey. Then style it and download it.
Print it
On a postcard, flyer, sign, menu or business card. Print it at least 2 cm (¾″) square. The code itself never changes.
Watch the scans
See every scan as it happens, or get a daily summary by email. Point the code somewhere new whenever your campaign changes.
Built for direct mail
Turn scans into an ad audience
The people who scan your mail are your warmest leads. Keep in front of them after the postcard goes in the recycling.
Scanners get a one-tap “Don’t track me”, and scans from Quebec or outside Canada and the US aren’t tagged. Not available for election or political campaigns, which Google doesn’t allow to retarget.
Set it up in Google Ads
One simple code on the outside, a full remarketing audience underneath. About ten minutes, once per code.
- Copy your Google tag ID. In Google Ads, open Tools → Data manager → Google tag and copy the ID that starts with AW-.
- Add it to your code. On our QR Codes page, open the code, paste the ID under Retarget your scanners, tick that it isn’t for an election or political campaign, and save. Leave Add tracking tags to the link on.
- Make the audience. In Google Ads, go to Tools → Shared library → Audience manager, add a Website visitors segment, and set the rule to visitors of a page whose URL contains the address shown under your code — mailqr.ca/ads/ followed by its number. A 30–90 day membership suits most mailings.
- Put it to work. Add the segment to a Display, YouTube or Demand Gen campaign to show scanners your offer again, or to a Search campaign to bid higher when they search for you. Google needs about 100 people in a segment before Display ads run (1,000 for Search), so it fills as the scans come in.
- See what the mail did. In Google Analytics, Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition: visits from your codes show as source mailqr, medium qr, with the code’s name as the campaign.
Each code feeds its own segment, so a postcard drop and a door hanger can be retargeted separately.
Every scan stays with us
Most free QR generators route your customers through someone else’s servers, ads and tracking before they reach you. Ours don’t. From the scan to your page, nothing leaves our own secure system — unless you connect your own Google Ads account.
